You are probably aware that Antarctica is treeless. (We didn't see any trees on today's walk, either.) This is a specimen of petrified wood, about 200 million years old, in the science building in McMurdo. It is about 1 ft. high. Antarctica had forests back then, even though the South Pole then was where it is today.
